About Me
Who I Am
I am a Person-Centered, non-directive therapist. My therapy values center around my clients. I believe in meeting my clients where they are in their lives mentally, and psychologically. I approach my clients with unconditional positive regard as we build a therapeutic relationship based on trust, honesty and integrity. It is my intention with every client, to provide a supportive and accepting therapeutic environment. Clients need to feel safe in order to be vulnerable and share their thoughts and feelings without judgment.
Building Confidence & Growth
My goal is to assist my clients in building confidence and personal empowerment, promoting healing and personal growth. I help clients to identify specific, measurable, and attainable goals where they are accepted and able to receive positive reinforcement, validation, and affirmation to better their situations and cope more effectively with life's adversities and challenges. I teach my clients healthy coping skills to manage and regulate their emotions and navigate their interpersonal relationships.
Listening & Advocacy
I have a heart for those who need someone to listen, believe in them, support them, and be an advocate for them. In our daily life we face many challenges that take us on many different journeys. Some are good and the days for some are bad, ugly and deadly. I walk with my clients guiding them through the processes of dealing with life's challenges and struggles.
My Approach
When Guilt, Shame & Grief Weigh Heavy
The reasons people come to counseling are many, and unique to each individual. Many come with a sense of guilt and/or shame for the events they have experienced. Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, grief and trauma events can lead people to feel that they are stuck and that there is no way out. Grief is the perceived loss of “something” that is important to us.
Loss & Trauma
It may be a job, a home, a relationship, a parent, sibling, maybe a child or adolescent, parent or loved one has died. Trauma results when we have witnessed or experienced or have exposure to a traumatic event, involving actual or threatened death, serious injury or sexual violence or quality of life as we age and look back to reflect on our accomplishments.
Anxiety & Depression in Daily Life
Many people struggle with depression and anxiety that present as racing thoughts, intrusive memories, sadness, loss of interest in activities that were once enjoyable, physical ailments, nightmares, flashbacks, or intense distress when reminders or “triggers” are present.
Living with Trauma Symptoms
Symptoms related to trauma may include the following symptoms: hypervigilance, avoidance, negative thinking loops and self-criticism, shifts in mood, trouble eating too much, or too little, sleeping too much or too little, challenges with concentration, focus, brain fog, and the completion of daily tasks.
When Triggers Pull Us Back
Triggers that activate an emotional response or behaviors may include a sound, a taste, a song, a smell, a place, a memory, something that takes us back to the traumatic event. Trauma has a way of feeling like we are being held back, and we may feel “stuck” as if there is not a way out of that particular situation. There is a way out!
